Saguache County boasts a rich  Native American history with descendents from the Ute, Navajo, Lakota, Ojibwa, Chippewa, and other Nations.  Saguache County proudly supports its indigenous cultures.  Recent examples are Reel Injun, a screening of the PBS documentary about the true history of Hollywood Indians including a discussion panel after the screening, a youth singing group that performed Lakota songs at the Crestone Energy Fair and will perform at the Saguache Thanksgiving Celebration, and traditional Lodges that host sacred ceremonies around the county.

Saguache County is pleased to host the revival of the Annual Saguache Wacipi Powwow in September.

The Saguache County library is rich with information regarding the indigenous history of Saguache and the San Luis Valley.  Saguache County Public Schools go above and beyond to teach students about the Ancient Indigenous and modern Native American Cultures.  Moffat school has been focusing on Indigenous history throughout the school year.  The students take great pride in Native American history and heritage.
