It's hard to live in the midst of such beauty and not be creative.
Our peaceful place draws painters, potters, weavers, jewelers
as well as other artists and performers. Painting classes for
all styles are available. A potter’s and a weaver’s guild, both
hold workshops and exhibit their wares at festivals and craft
sales. Many local fiber artists raise their own sheep, goats
or llamas, like Escuela in Villa Grove, (
escuela@amigo.net).
There are traditional cultural crafts produced by the Spanish
inhabitants of the area.

Saguache County once boasted
a turquoise mine in the northern hills, specimens sill adorn
local jewelry. Area galleries such as the Mirage Trading Co.,
Villa Grove Trade, Always Azul Pottery, and Bear Medicine to
name a few which feature local artists. The Crestone Artisans
Gallery brings together various talented fine artists and puts
on many shows as well as co-sponsors of the Winterfest Holiday
Bazaar in downtown Crestone. Visit

Many musicians make their home here and record at
the local Alamosa Howlin’ Dog Studio at Richmond Music.
There is always some local festival, dance or open mike
night around somewhere. Moffatstock in July, Summer
Saturdays in Saguache, and the Labor Day Energy Fair are venues where you can hear our native talent. Of course the
annual Crestone Music Festival features many local and regional
acts. Taking place the first weekend in August, it is
three days of eclectic multi-genre and multi-cultural entertainment.
Two stages offer non-stop music and there are
vendors, games and children’s activities. Great music in a
laid back scenic outdoor venue – what more can you ask?
